Loving The Things That Matter

Loving The Things That Matter

One of my favorite rooms in our home is our office and music room. It overlooks our woods. The sunshine peeks through the trees as I sit in our comfy green chair. This room brings peace for reading, playing music or listening to music.

The wall hanging which hangs over the piano is made of rustic wood. Some years ago, I saw it at a friends store. There were only two at the time to purchase. After emailing my friend, she saved it until we could come by to purchase the piece. The word love with the heart was unique and brought a bit of charm to a simple wooden board.

Lately, I have been looking at the love sign as I have been reading and pondering. With the times we are in, I need that quiet space to reflect and just be. When I view that sign, it makes me think of the things I love or enjoy. Some of those things include: friends, bacon, music, coffee, flowers, fishing, birds singing, sunshine, water, an uplifting text or card, creating, laughter, favorite TV shows…

Hearts I made with my grandpa. I have kept them in my Go Fish game all of these years. It kept my secret stash of treasures. If you look closely, you will see his written budget numbers on the back of the scrap paper.

Love causes us to reflect on what really matters in our lives. Love may evoke sadness as we think of disappointing times. Love can cause us to show care and extend grace. It enables us to appreciate the things and people that make us love the day to day.

Love may make us remember fond memories. I need to get better at printing pictures from my phone. Those days of taken the film to get develop is rare. When taking film to get processed, it would bring an excitement to see what pictures would be in the envelope. Now, it seems I have a plethora of pictures that accumulate.

One of the pictures from my phone was from one of my students. We did a project where we wrote notes and practiced our editing skills. This particular “Somebunny Loves You” writing was done in the spring, prior to the school year ending early. As I was reading it, the heartfelt words brought joy.

“It is not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing.” (Mother Teresa) The simple acts of showing care brings an abundance of love to others. May we find our quiet space to reflect on things we love. May we seek to show care. May we do our best through acts of kindness in the day to day. May we enjoy the things in our lives that bring heartfelt joy.
